Surprisingly good restaurant in the mountains which is a little bit difficult to find but worth it. They have the most traditional crete food of the entire island. Their sheep dishes was be on imagination as well as their escagot. Definitely come back if i have a chance. Highly recommended.
Authentic traditional Cretan taverna. We were told by a Cretan friend to stop here for a meal and we could not be happier we did. We followed the owner's recommendations and it was all delicious. The goat in wine was very tender and tasty, and the handmade traditional Cretan pasta was very special. Absolutely worth driving there!
The BEST Greek food we’ve had in Greece ever!! And I’m super super picky ! Everything is home made with mum and dad cooking, wonderful and kind Greek hospitality in a beautiful mountain village
The best Tavern in Kroustas. Traditional food, the way it should be. One of the best in Lasithi. The owners are genuine and very polite. Whoever visits the place, should try the local specialities, otherwise it's a loss. Lamb, snails, staka butter cream, cheesepies and homemade pasta are a must.
Without the smallest doubt - Taverna Stavrakakis is our biggest discovery of this summer! What a food! What a food!!! Such a pity our hotel owner told us about this gem only 3 nights before our holiday was over, I'm sure we'd be here every night for a dinner. The whole family is the one to be praised and remembered forever, mama Penelope and her husband and sons made this place the best restaurant not only in the area, but for us on the whole Crete (and we've seen almost every corner of it returning here for 3 times, for now). The dishes you can try here are pure traditional gold, made with love, old fashioned recepies, no Instagram trends, no faking... real, real food like our grannies used to prepare! The ingredients are stunning, tastes just keep on running through your body and making it feel happy... goat in wine sauce, lamb chops, pasta, stuffed zucchini flowers, sausages, homemade bread, cheese pie with honey... and STAKA! The best thing we've ever tried! Oh, and the lemon cake as a complimentary desert, if a 5x5cm piece of sweet can be put in a wedding ring instead of diamond, I'd choose Penelope's lemon cake! Thank you for treating us like a part of your family and like we know eachother for decades, it's been an unforgettable experience spending time with your beautiful family. Wizard Penelope, thanks for the recipe, I'm sure I won't be as good but I'll try to touch that level and can't wait to send the results. Big hug and love for Stavrakakis family, see you next year! This taverna is an absolute gem! The owner and staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The food is outstanding, with highlights including the delicious boiled goat and the goat cooked in red wine, both of which are truly superb. They accept card payments, making it convenient, and to top it off, they generously provide plenty of complimentary desserts and raki, adding an extra touch of Cretan hospitality. A must-visit for an unforgettable dining experience!
The best staka I have ever had, definitely a must with their homemade bread. Amazing traditional tavern, great service and overall atmosphere. Very decent prices, around 15 euros per person. I would recommend it 100%.
Lovely family owned restaurant in a picturesque small town, the food is just like your grand mother did for you, tasty and big portion. The price is much lower than those fancy seafront places with fried fish but much more worth full to take a small tour in this lovely town and make a stop at this restaurant.
